DHAKUAKHANA, Sept 27: The 578th birth anniversary of Jagatguru Srimanta Sankardeva concluded with a two-day programme at Kamargaon Buniadi Sangha Namghar in Dhakuakhana, featuring religious and cultural events, including a Bhagawat Bhraman procession.
The celebrations were organised by the Pragatisil Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, Dhakuakhana Mandal, and hosted by the Kamargaon Buniadi Sangha. The first day began with tree plantation, Sarai establishment and flag hoisting, followed by Bhagawat recitation, children’s Borgeet and quiz competitions. An earthen lamp-lighting ceremony and an overnight Naam-Prasanga were also held.
On the concluding day, Central Sangha Secretary Bhupen Baruah inaugurated the Bhagawat Bhraman at 10 am. Men, women and youths from Kamargaon, along with people from different castes and communities, participated in the procession, singing Naam-Prasanga and carrying banners and placards. Participants pledged to preserve Srimanta Sankardeva’s ideals, arts and culture.
The main religious symposium was held at 12.30 pm under the chairmanship of Mandal President Bipin Chandra Bora. Central Sangha President Diganta Bhuyan attended as chief guest, along with Vice-President Bhuban Gohain, Professor Premananda Talukdar and Chief Saranacharya Chandra Kamal Bora.
The celebrations concluded at 9 pm with a Bhaona, “Bhagawat Mahatmya Gokarna – Dhundhukari Akhyan”, performed by youths from the Kamargaon area.
