The CPI(M) claims its candidates and polling agents faced targeted obstruction during Monday’s Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections. Senior party leader Radha Charan Debbarma alleged that rival groups actively blocked the party’s participation despite heavy security arrangements surrounding the local polls.
Voting began at 7 a.m. to fill 2,950 of the 4,597 seats across 587 Village Committees. According to Debbarma, the CPI(M) was barred from fielding candidates in 12 of the 13 blocks across West Tripura and the Sepahijala district, with Mandai acting as the sole exception. He also claimed that party polling agents were forcibly evicted from election booths in Kamalpur’s Srirampur area and Kairi village in the Mandai block.
Despite these reported hurdles, the CPI(M) successfully fielded candidates in more than half of the available seats. Debbarma noted that regular voters were still turning out peacefully to cast their ballots without apparent intimidation. Encouraged by this strong civilian participation, the party remains optimistic about improving its overall performance compared to previous district council elections.
