UDALGURI-SONITPUR, Sept 28: The Northeast News Trust Association, a proposed state-level news agency, was formed at a meeting held at Kanaka Village Resort near the Dhekiajuli-Udalguri inter-district border in Sonitpur district on September 28.
The meeting, chaired by senior journalist Ganesh Deka of Asomiya Pratidin, Bhergaon, discussed the need for a state-level news organisation on the lines of PTI, UNI and Reuters. The meeting unanimously decided to establish the organisation and constituted a 15-member executive committee.
Naba Kumar Deka was appointed president and Sanjoy Baruah of Assam Rising secretary. The committee also includes journalists and members from different parts of the region.
According to Baruah, the organisation will disseminate and publish news in Assamese, English, Hindi, Bengali, Bodo and Nepali through at least 10 digital media platforms. It will function as a state-level news agency under the name Northeast News Trust Association.
Deka said the organisation’s registered office would be established at Orang, while its regional office would be set up at Dhekiajuli.
The organisers have invited journalists and other interested persons to join the organisation and participate in its activities.
