Security forces and district police teams arrested four alleged active members of different insurgent groups during separate operations across Manipur on September 28, police said.
In Imphal East, a joint team of the Chief District Police Officer (CDO) and security forces apprehended 23-year-old Waikhom Hero Meetei, alias Ibomcha, from Sanjenbam Khunou. Police identified him as an alleged active member of the KCP (Nongdrenkhomba).
Meetei was allegedly involved with other members of the outfit in abducting a woman from her residence at Top Awang Leikai, police said. He was subsequently handed over to Lamlai police station for further legal action.
In Bishnupur district, the CDO team arrested 55-year-old Md Islaouddin, alias Ibosana, at Lilong Tairen Makhong. A resident of Lilong Mairen Khun, Islaouddin was allegedly involved in recruiting cadres for the proscribed NRFM, according to police.
Another operation by the Special CDO Unit at Khabeisoi led to the arrest of 24-year-old Waikhom Sena from his residence at Luwangsangbam Mamang Leikai in Imphal East. Police alleged that Sena was an active NRFM member involved in preparing and publishing articles and press releases for the group on social media platforms and in newspapers.
Sena was also allegedly involved in unauthorised financial transactions. Police identified him as the president of the Manipur Student Federation (MSF), Imphal East.
During a search of his residence, police recovered Rs 2.67 lakh in cash, which they alleged was extorted money, along with an Apple MacBook. The device was allegedly used to prepare articles and press releases for NRFM, police said.
In a separate operation in Imphal West, a CDO team searched an area of Kangmong Maisnam Maning Leikai under Nambol police station and arrested 24-year-old Khumbongmayum Ranjan Singh, alias KK.
Singh, a resident of Moidangpok Khunou Mayai Leikai in Imphal West, was identified by police as an alleged active member of the KCP (PWG).
