Three people were arrested and a juvenile was apprehended after separate anti-narcotics operations in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts led to the seizure of suspected heroin and codeine-based cough syrup on September 28.
The largest heroin haul was reported from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai, where Porompat police recovered 327 grams of suspected heroin from an abandoned A-Star car bearing registration number MN01W-9822. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a bag containing 12 soap cases filled with suspected heroin powder. The narcotics and vehicle were seized for further legal proceedings.
Earlier, a joint team of Imphal East District Police, security forces and YADAM conducted a search at Nongmeibung under Porompat police station based on intelligence inputs.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two men from Kwakta, identified as 24-year-old Md Ayub Khan and 30-year-old Md Tomba. Police recovered 12 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4, with a combined weight of 157 grams. A Maruti Suzuki van bearing registration number MN01CS-3664 was also seized.
In Bishnupur district, police intercepted an Activa at Kwakta Terakhongshangbi and recovered 130 bottles of Vincof-Plus cough syrup containing 26 grams of codeine phosphate.
Police arrested 33-year-old Mouluvi Imran and apprehended a juvenile who was travelling as a pillion rider. The accused, juvenile and seized materials were handed over to Phougakchao Ikhai police station for further legal proceedings.
