Assam Police seized 103 cattle and detained 10 people during separate operations in Chirang and Dhubri districts, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on September 28.
In Chirang, police intercepted six vehicles transporting 51 cattle and detained 10 people, Sarma said. The operation was conducted as part of enforcement action against the alleged illegal transportation of cattle.
Dhubri Police recovered another 52 cattle during separate operations in Dhubri, Fakirganj, Sapatgram and Salkocha, according to the Chief Minister.
“Looks like the cattle smugglers’ GPS is still not working,” Sarma said in a post on X while sharing details of the operations.
He said the combined operations had resulted in 103 cattle being “saved from the clutches of the cattle mafia”.
The seizures were the latest in a series of police operations against alleged cattle smuggling in Assam.
