A home guard was allegedly forced into a vehicle and taken away during a naka checking operation in Assam’s Nagaon district, with police later rescuing him and arresting one person in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred at Batadrava when personnel from Batadrava Police Station were conducting routine vehicle checks.
According to police, home guard personnel Dipen Kalita was stopped during the operation before Hannan Ali, travelling in a vehicle bearing registration number AS-02-EC-0203, allegedly dragged him inside and fled.
The vehicle was carrying bamboo materials from Karbi Anglong. Ali was accompanied by another man who was working as the vehicle’s helper, police said.
A patrolling police team pursued the vehicle after the incident and eventually rescued Kalita at Dhupguri in Dhing.
Batadrava Police subsequently arrested Ali. The alleged accomplice, who was serving as the vehicle’s helper, remained absconding.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and forcible removal of the home guard personnel.
The incident has caused tension in the Batadrava area as police continue their investigation.
