Two young children were found wandering in an intoxicated state in Silchar’s Tarapur area late at night and were subsequently rescued with police assistance, according to reports.
The children, a girl aged around four and a boy believed to be between four and five years old, were spotted by video journalist Zakir Hussain at around 1am.
Hussain informed social worker Subir Dhar, who then contacted Tarapur Police for assistance. Police personnel and the social worker rescued the children and ensured their safety.
The children were later handed over to child welfare authorities for necessary care and protection. By around 3am, steps had been taken to keep them in a safe place, according to reports.
The circumstances in which the children reached the Tarapur area at such a late hour remain unclear. Authorities are yet to establish their identities or trace their family members.
The concerned authorities are taking further steps to identify the children and locate their family.
