Guwahati: India face a record run chase against West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday after the visitors posted a massive 405 for seven in their 50 overs. West Indies produced a spectacular batting performance after India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field. John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all scored centuries, making the innings only the sixth in men’s ODI history in which three batters from the same team have reached three figures. Campbell set the platform with a blistering 101 off 68 balls, including nine fours and five sixes. Captain Shai Hope followed with 104 off 94 balls, while Amir Jangoo provided the late acceleration with 114 off 77 balls, striking 13 fours and three sixes.

The 405-run total is West Indies’ highest-ever ODI score, surpassing their previous best of 389 against England in 2019. It is also the third-highest total scored against India in men’s ODIs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav claimed 2/65 and reached the landmark of 200 ODI wickets during the innings. Gurnoor Brar also picked up two wickets but conceded 96 runs, while debutant Auqib Nabi had an expensive introduction, giving away 84 runs in 8.5 overs. India began their chase aggressively. Rohit Sharma smashed 101, while captain Shubman Gill continued his remarkable ODI form with a second successive century. Gill reached his 11th ODI hundred from only 62 balls, including five sixes and 10 fours. His century was also the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian captain.
Rohit and Gill put India in a strong position before Rohit was dismissed for 101. At the latest available update, India were 262 for one after 27 overs, with Gill unbeaten on 146 and Virat Kohli yet to get off the mark. India now require 144 runs from 23 overs to complete what would be their highest successful ODI chase. Their previous best chase was 362 against Australia in 2013.
