Pema Khandu Launches GPS App to Track Itanagar Sanitation Vehicles

ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday launched a GPS-enabled mobile application to monitor and track sanitation vehicles operated by the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) during the state’s observance of Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas 2026.

Khandu, along with Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, IMC Mayor Likha Nari Tadar, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso and other officials, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Udyan Park in Niti Vihar.

The launch formed part of the Swachh Bharat Diwas 2026 celebrations under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign. The programme, organised by the IMC, was held at the Banquet Hall in Niti Vihar.

The GPS-enabled app was aimed at improving the monitoring of sanitation vehicles and strengthening the city’s waste management system. The tracking mechanism was expected to help officials monitor the movement and deployment of vehicles engaged in sanitation services.

Deputy Mayor Tok Tebin Camdir, IMC corporators and other officials also attended the programme.

Addressing the media, Khandu urged citizens to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness and make hygiene part of their daily lives. He called on residents to work collectively towards making Itanagar one of the cleanest cities in the country, stressing that cleanliness required public participation alongside government efforts.

The Swachh Bharat Diwas programme also highlighted the need for greater community participation in sanitation and waste management to keep Itanagar clean and healthy.
