Silchar Municipal Corporation poll counting begins Tuesday for 40 wards

Counting of votes for the first-ever Silchar Municipal Corporation election will begin at 8 am on Tuesday at the Indian Society for Technical Training (ISTT) in Ramnagar, with security arrangements in place for the exercise.

The counting will cover 40 of the corporation’s 42 wards, as BJP candidates have already been elected unopposed in two wards.

Officials will count votes in seven rooms, each equipped with 14 counting tables. Three to four tables will be assigned to each ward, with the process expected to conclude within four rounds in most cases. Wards with fewer voters are likely to be completed in three rounds.

Polling for the newly constituted municipal corporation was held on October 3, recording around 71 per cent turnout among approximately 2.7 lakh registered voters.

The administration and police have deployed security personnel at the counting centre and other key locations. Measures have been put in place to maintain order and ensure the counting proceeds without disruption.

The results will establish the mandate across the 40 contested wards of Silchar Municipal Corporation.
