AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan denies resignation reports

Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan has rejected social media reports claiming that he has resigned from the regional party and given up his primary membership.

In a series of posts, Bhuyan said he remained the AJP general secretary and had no intention of leaving the party. He alleged that a group was deliberately circulating false information about his resignation and urged party workers and supporters not to believe the reports.

Bhuyan said he would leave politics only when he personally decided to do so, adding that he had helped establish the AJP and regarded it as his final political identity.

“Politics was never a profession for me, neither is it today nor will it be in the future,” he said.

He said the AJP represented his political identity after he relinquished a Cabinet-rank position and chose to build the regional party from the ground up in what he described as an effort to uphold Assam’s “national self-respect”.

Bhuyan also alleged that a group had been working against the party for some time. He said the alleged campaign was behind his decision to publicly clarify that he had neither resigned from the AJP nor given up its primary membership.
