Kokrajhar: A powerful explosion late Wednesday night damaged a section of railway track between Kokrajhar and Salakati stations in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, disrupting train services and sparking panic among passengers.
According to preliminary reports, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated around five kilometres east of Kokrajhar railway station, leaving a portion of the track severely damaged.
Following the blast, railway authorities immediately suspended movement on both up and down lines as a precautionary measure. Several trains were halted at nearby stations, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and creating an atmosphere of anxiety in the area.
Teams from the railway department, security forces, and bomb disposal squads rushed to the site soon after the incident to assess the extent of the damage and begin investigations.
While officials have not yet confirmed who was responsible for the explosion, security has been intensified across Kokrajhar district as inquiries continue into the suspected act of sabotage.
