SHILLONG, Oct 6: Two restaurants from Shillong, Rynsan and Nonna Mei, have featured in India’s Top 50 Restaurants 2026 list, placing the Meghalaya capital among the country’s notable culinary destinations.
Rynsan secured the 32nd position, while Nonna Mei was ranked 44th in the list released on October 6. They were the only two restaurants from the Northeast to make it to the top 50.
Rynsan, known for its contemporary interpretation of local flavours, was ranked ahead of Nonna Mei, which combines Italian and local influences. Their inclusion places Shillong alongside major food destinations including Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the two restaurants in a social media post on October 6.
“Congratulations to Rynsan and Nonna Mei on being named among the Top 50 winners,” Sangma said, describing the establishments as reflecting “the diversity, creativity and sophistication of Meghalaya’s food culture”.
He also highlighted their approach to cuisine, saying they were “reimagining traditional flavours” and “bringing together local and Italian cuisine”.
“Meghalaya’s flavours are making their mark on the national culinary map,” the Chief Minister said.
Goa had the highest representation on the list, with several restaurants featuring among the top 50. Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai also had multiple entries. The list featured establishments offering a range of culinary styles, including regional Indian cuisine, contemporary interpretations and international food.
The recognition of Rynsan and Nonna Mei marks a significant showing for Shillong’s evolving restaurant scene and Meghalaya’s growing presence in India’s wider culinary landscape.
