Nameri Tiger Reserve has secured Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS) Approved status, making it the fourth tiger reserve in Assam to receive the international conservation recognition.
The approval was granted on September 10 following an assessment of the reserve and endorsement by the CA|TS International Executive Committee. Nameri now joins Kaziranga, Manas and Orang, bringing all four of Assam’s tiger reserves under the CA|TS management framework.
CA|TS is an international system used to assess the effectiveness of tiger reserve management and protection. Its evaluation covers wildlife protection, habitat management, scientific monitoring, administration, conservation planning and community participation.
Nameri completed the prescribed assessment process before the international executive committee approved its status. The recognition reflects efforts to strengthen protection systems, enhance scientific monitoring, manage habitats and implement conservation measures across the reserve.
The achievement also recognises the work of forest officials, frontline personnel and other stakeholders involved in managing and protecting Nameri.
Situated on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, Nameri forms an important part of Assam’s tiger conservation landscape. It is ecologically connected to forests in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Brahmaputra Valley, supporting connectivity between forest and wildlife habitats across the region.
The Field Director of Nameri Tiger Reserve said the approval reflected sustained efforts to improve conservation and management practices in the reserve.
With Nameri’s inclusion, all four tiger reserves in Assam have now received CA|TS-approved status, strengthening the state’s framework for tiger habitat protection, wildlife management and long-term conservation planning.
