Security forces arrested two alleged active members of banned insurgent outfits in separate operations in Manipur on October 8 over their suspected involvement in providing shelter to militants and extortion.
The first arrest took place at Chingarel Tejpur under Lamlai police station in Imphal East, where a joint team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CDO), Imphal East, and security forces apprehended Haorongbam Lukhoi Singh, alias Solendro, 34.
Singh was identified as an alleged active cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Acting on intelligence inputs, the team arrested him on suspicion of sheltering members of the outfit and collecting extortion money from the public to finance its activities.
In a separate operation, a joint team of CDO, Imphal East, and Central security forces arrested Chanambam Tomba Singh, alias Francish and Angou, 46, from Taothong Lamkhai under Lamsang police station in Imphal West.
He was identified as an alleged active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG). Police suspected him of extorting money from shops in Singjamei, Canchipur, Kakwa, Mantripukhri and the RIMS Road area. His arrest followed specific intelligence inputs.
