Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced plans to expand the Nijut Moina scheme next year to include students pursuing B.Sc Nursing and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) courses.
He made the announcement during a programme to distribute the first instalment of financial assistance under the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes at the Jyoti-Bishnu Auditorium in Guwahati.
The proposed expansion is expected to extend financial support to more eligible students enrolled in professional nursing courses.
Education Department official Narayan Konwar said the Nijut Moina scheme had so far covered around 6.13 lakh girl students across Assam.
The distribution of assistance under the two schemes was presented as a festive gift to students ahead of Durga Puja. Further details on the proposed expansion are awaited.
