NEW DELHI, Oct 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday honoured police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, paying tribute to 10 CRPF personnel killed in a confrontation with Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959.
Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day parade in New Delhi, Shah recalled how the personnel died while resisting Chinese forces on October 21. Their sacrifice is commemorated annually on this date in recognition of police personnel who gave their lives in service to the nation.
Shah also acknowledged the demanding nature of police service, noting that personnel frequently work through festivals and family occasions to ensure public safety. Their responsibilities include maintaining internal security, managing traffic and protecting citizens.
The Home Minister paid his respects to the fallen personnel by laying a wreath at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri. Dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 21, 2018, the memorial honours police personnel who have contributed to protecting India’s security and territorial integrity.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 to remember those who died while carrying out their duties.
