Lakhimpur: The Lakhimpur district units of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parichad (AJYCP) and All Assam Students Union (AASU) organized widespread protest marches across various parts of Lakhimpur on Thursday, demanding justice for the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore a month ago.
The AJYCP, as part of its state-wide demonstration, led a protest march in North Lakhimpur, calling for the execution of those responsible for Zubeen Garg’s death. During the protest, the youth organization carried two effigies of Shayamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sarma, who are accused in the case. Protesters conducted a “mock hanging” and were seen slapping the effigies of the two accused with footwear, demanding a speedy trial and exemplary punishment.
Simultaneously, the AASU organized a “Nyaya Samadal” (March for Justice) in North Lakhimpur, where hundreds of students took to the streets, calling for a fair trial for the accused and justice for Zubeen Garg. The march, which passed through the main streets of North Lakhimpur, was marked by emotional chants and slogans.
