MORIGAON, Oct 26: Police detained a woman in Assam’s Morigaon district on Sunday in connection with the suspected murder of a 25-year-old man whose charred remains were recovered from a toilet tank atop Baha Hill in the Mayong area.
The deceased, Zahir Islam of Khalabhuya village under Mayong Police Station, had been missing since October 18. His family approached the police after he failed to return home.
Police identified the detained woman as Jesmine and suspected that Islam had been killed before his body was set on fire. However, investigators have yet to establish the motive behind the suspected crime.
Islam, a father of three, earned his livelihood by operating a broiler farm. The recovery of his charred remains has prompted an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police have not disclosed further details about the investigation or the woman’s alleged involvement in the case.
