Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday linked the state’s development push to the memory of the October 30, 2008, serial bomb blasts, as he travelled to Dima Hasao for the Bhumi Pujan of a proposed cement manufacturing unit worth Rs 1,800 crore.
In a post on X, Sarma highlighted the contrast between the attacks that shook Assam in 2008 and the industrial investment planned for the state on October 30, 2026.
“Same date but two different eras. A new Assam has risen,” he wrote.
Recalling the blasts, which he described as the biggest terror attack on Assam’s soil, Sarma said the state had worked towards building an environment where people could live in peace and pursue development.
He presented the proposed cement plant, alongside other projects being developed across Assam, as a tribute to those killed in the 2008 attacks.
The Chief Minister said Assam should move beyond a past marked by violence and advance towards development and progress, in keeping with the vision of its forefathers.
“Joi Aai Axom!” he added.
