Sacred relics of Lord Buddha, Shakyamuni, arrived in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, from the National Museum in New Delhi, Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced.
Describing the occasion as a matter of great honour for the state, Khandu highlighted the historical significance of the relics, which were recovered from the ancient Piprahwa Stupa in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district.
The archaeological site is closely associated with ancient Kapilavastu, regarded as the homeland of the Shakya clan to which Lord Buddha belonged.
Khandu called the relics’ arrival in Tawang a historic occasion and expressed hope that it would strengthen people’s commitment to Buddha’s teachings of compassion, peace, wisdom and universal brotherhood.
