SHILLONG, Nov 2: West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh is set to rejoin the Meghalaya Cabinet, with his swearing-in scheduled for 5 pm on Monday, an NPP leader said.
Lyngdoh will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former United Democratic Party (UDP) president Metbah Lyngdoh from the Council of Ministers. He previously served as the State’s tourism minister.
His return to the Cabinet comes days after he joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), amid a political realignment in which 11 UDP legislators left the party. Eight joined the BJP, while Lyngdoh and two other MLAs sought to merge with the NPP.
The NPP formally inducted Lyngdoh and Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh on October 28. Mookaiaw MLA Nujorji Sungoh, the third legislator seeking to join the party, could not attend the programme due to illness.
Lyngdoh’s earlier tenure as tourism minister included involvement in projects such as the proposed Shillong Peak Ropeway, which recently faced objections from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
