Guwahati: Guwahati’s Subam Rabha has been appointed assistant coach of the Indian Under-17 football team, which will compete in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifiers from November 22 to 30. The 2026 edition of the continental championship will be held in Saudi Arabia.
An AFC ‘A’ License holder, Subam currently serves as the Head of Youth Development at Odisha FC and has already joined the national team’s training camp in Goa.
“Representing India at any level is a huge honour. Coaching the U-17 national team has always been a dream, and I’m thrilled to see it come true,” said Subam, expressing his excitement over the new role.
India, one of the seven host nations for the qualifiers, will see Subam work alongside head coach Bibiano Fernandes in preparing the young squad. “Our U-17 boys have shown great promise, winning the SAFF Championship in Sri Lanka and performing strongly in China. I’m confident we can achieve good results in the qualifiers,” he added.

Before joining Odisha FC, he headed youth development at Sreenidi Deccan FC. Reflecting on his journey, Subam said, “My focus has always been on nurturing young talent. Working across the Northeast has given me valuable insights into player development.”
Adding to Assam’s footballing pride, the current India U-17 squad includes two young players from the state — goalkeeper Manahjyoti Baruah and forward Rahan Ahmed.
