CM Flags In 248-km Brahmaputra Sailing Expedition in Guwahati

A 10-day sailing expedition covering around 248 km along the Brahmaputra concluded at Pandu Port in Guwahati on November 6, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally flagging in the participating cadets.

The Brahmaputra Sailing Expedition–MENU 2026 began at Biswanath Ghat in Biswanath Chariali on October 28. Organised under the Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU 2026) initiative by the NCC Directorate, North Eastern Region, Shillong, it brought together 100 Senior Division and Senior Wing Naval NCC cadets from the 48 and 49 Assam Naval Units.

The team sailed through six districts — Biswanath, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Darrang, Morigaon and Kamrup Metropolitan — before reaching Guwahati. The expedition aimed to develop adventure, teamwork, discipline, leadership and patriotism among young participants. It also paid tribute to the valour and leadership of Ahom general Bir Lachit Borphukan and showcased Assam’s cultural and riverine heritage.

During stops along the route, cadets took part in cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns and anti-drug programmes. They also staged street plays and cultural performances highlighting the life and legacy of Lachit Borphukan.

Before setting out, the participants underwent intensive training in sailing, navigation, seamanship, river safety, survival skills and rescue procedures.

The concluding ceremony recognised the cadets’ efforts and acknowledged the assistance provided by the Assam government, National Disaster Response Force, Inland Water Transport authorities and other agencies.
