Agartala: The Tripura Government has announced a series of key policy decisions aimed at empowering women, promoting entrepreneurship, and improving access to higher education, alongside new employment opportunities in the energy sector.
Addressing a press conference on October 28, Cabinet Spokesperson and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the cabinet has approved the Tripura Women Entrepreneurs Policy to boost women’s participation in business, particularly among those from rural areas and self-help groups. Under this policy, women entrepreneurs can avail loans of up to ₹1 crore with a 35% subsidy. “Lakhpati Didi can also avail this benefit,” the minister noted, highlighting the government’s focus on rural economic development.
The Social Welfare and Social Education Department has also approved the Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana, a new financial support scheme for girls from Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families. Under the scheme, if two baby girls are born in a government hospital to an AAY family, ₹50,000 will be fixed for each child, which can be accessed after the daughters turn 18. “The main aim is to prevent child marriage and provide financial security to poor families,” Chowdhury explained.
In another major step toward women’s education, the cabinet approved the establishment of a new Women’s College at Nalchar in Sepahijala district under the Higher Education Department.
The cabinet further cleared a proposal to fill 104 managerial posts—spanning Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil streams—under the Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited (TSECL). These include 24 Manager (Electrical) Grade A posts, 4 Manager (Mechanical) Grade A posts, 8 Manager (Civil) Grade A posts (all requiring B.Tech degrees), and 58 Manager (Electrical) Grade B posts for diploma holders. The recruitment process will be conducted through competitive examinations.
Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the Mukhyamantri Sonkhalaghu Unnayan Prakalpa 2025, a welfare scheme for religious minorities aimed at improving their economic condition. The scheme earmarks ₹1.5 crore to support small business ventures, offering a one-time grant of ₹10,000 in two instalments through the Department of Welfare of Minorities. A total of 1,500 beneficiaries have been targeted in the first phase.
Minister Chowdhury emphasised that these initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to inclusive growth, women’s empowerment, and social welfare across all sections of society.
