Imphal: In a coordinated counter-insurgency drive, security forces have arrested a woman cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) from the Wangkhei Andro Parking area in Imphal East district. The arrested cadre has been identified as 45-year-old Wahengbam Kiran Singh.
According to official sources, the arrest was made during an intelligence-based operation targeting extortion and other unlawful activities being carried out by insurgent groups in the region. Authorities confirmed that search and combing operations have been intensified across Manipur to track down individuals involved in underground militant activities.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, security personnel recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the Ngairangbam Maning Loukon area in Imphal West district. The seized weapons include a modified .303 rifle with a magazine, two country-made single-barrel guns, a pistol with a magazine, two hand grenades without detonators, and several live cartridges.
Security agencies stated that these ongoing coordinated efforts are aimed at neutralising insurgent networks and restoring peace and stability in Manipur, which has long faced challenges from underground militant groups.
