Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria has been brought to Punjab from Silchar Jail in Assam on a production warrant in connection with the murder of gangster Gurpreet Singh Gora, popularly known as Gora Bariar, an official confirmed on Thursday. Bhagwanpuria was produced before a Batala court, which remanded him to three days of police custody. He was transported to Punjab on Wednesday night under heavy security.
Gora Bariar was gunned down on May 26 at a petrol pump situated along the Ghuman–Shri Hargobindpur road in Batala. Police have already apprehended Nilson Masih, a close associate of Bhagwanpuria, accusing him of orchestrating the murder at Bhagwanpuria’s direction. Investigators revealed that Masih was accompanied by three others during the fatal attack.
Bhagwanpuria had been lodged in Silchar Jail since March after being detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Known for his extensive criminal network, he has been named in multiple high-profile cases, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Authorities are now focusing on uncovering Bhagwanpuria’s role in the Gora Bariar killing and whether it was part of a larger gang rivalry within Punjab’s criminal underworld.
