Guwahati: In a proud recognition of visionary leadership from the North East, The Academic Insights magazine has named Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), among India’s 25 Most Inspiring Education Leaders.
This prestigious honour celebrates Chancellor Hoque’s transformative contributions to education across the North East and beyond, highlighting his efforts to empower youth and expand access to quality learning.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Chancellor Hoque said,
“I deeply appreciate The Academic Insight’s honourable certificate. I am a great admirer of this monthly powerhouse. My motto to keep going forward positively in a very competitive world is to keep trying, don’t look back. If you pick up ten things and only four work, move forward with them — and things will materialise.”

Over the past twenty-three years, Chancellor Hoque has built a formidable education network under the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) — starting with just four students and growing to a family of over 10,000 learners across fourteen institutions, offering education from kindergarten to Ph.D. level.
The recognition of Shri Hoque is not only a personal milestone but also a celebration of North East India’s growing presence on the national education map. It stands as a testament to perseverance, purpose-driven vision, and people-centric leadership.
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), established under his leadership, holds the distinction of being the first state private university in the North East dedicated to science and technology. USTM earned an “A” Grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its very first assessment cycle in 2021. It has also been consistently ranked among India’s top 200 universities and remains the only private university from the North East to feature in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for four consecutive years.
Through his enduring commitment and visionary guidance, Mahbubul Hoque continues to inspire a generation of educators and learners, reaffirming that meaningful change in education begins with belief, courage, and relentless effort.
