Haflong: In a moment of pride for Haflong and the entire Dima Hasao district, Sabrina Alam, daughter of Samsul Alam and Sultana Rafia, has become the first-ever recipient of the Zubeen Garg Memorial Gold Medal Award at the 11th Convocation of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM).
Sabrina was honoured for her outstanding all-round performance, excelling not only in academics but also in co-curricular activities and community engagement. She also received the Gold Medal in B.Sc. Biotechnology, reflecting her remarkable achievements and dedication to excellence.
The convocation ceremony, held at the USTM Auditorium, was attended by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar as the Chief Guest. The event also featured Padma Bhushan Dr. Senapathy “Kris” Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of the Council, IISc Bangalore, and Co-founder of Infosys, along with several eminent academicians and dignitaries.
Sabrina’s recognition as the inaugural recipient of the Zubeen Garg Memorial Gold Medal stands as a tribute to the legendary artiste’s enduring legacy, symbolising the values of talent, passion, and cultural pride that he represented.
