Assam Set to Welcome Top Union Ministers as Sitharaman and Rajnath Singh Lead Major Project Launches

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit the state between November 7 and 9 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several key development projects.

Sitharaman will arrive in Guwahati on November 7 for a two-day visit, during which she will inspect the new semiconductor plant in Jagiroad and inaugurate major infrastructure projects. “The Union Finance Minister will inaugurate a world-class land water terminal and a riverfront garden in Guwahati. On November 8, she will lay the foundation stone of Kanaklata Barua State University, a new greenfield institution,” the Chief Minister stated.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will reach Guwahati on November 9 to attend the Indian Air Force’s aero show at Lachit Ghat, which will feature performances by advanced aircraft.

Sarma also announced that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to visit Assam in the coming weeks. “In the next 45 days, Assam will see the visit of a galaxy of national leaders,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s visit will cover Guwahati and Dibrugarh, where he will inaugurate the new terminal building of Guwahati Airport, lay the foundation stone of a new fertiliser complex in Dibrugarh, and later open the bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati over the Brahmaputra River.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah’s visit will include a party meeting and inaugurations of two major cultural landmarks — a 5,000-capacity auditorium dedicated to Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, and a heritage project at the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.

“These visits in December and January will mark the beginning of a new era of development for Assam,” the Chief Minister affirmed.
