One killed, one injured in brutal attack at Rupai Tea Estate; tension grips Doomdooma

Tinsukia: Tension gripped Doomdooma on Tuesday night after a violent attack at the Rupai Tea Estate left one woman dead and another critically injured.

According to reports, a man identified as Narottam Bhoomij attacked 55-year-old Sheela Nanda and her daughter-in-law, Rashmi Karmakar, with a sharp weapon. Both were rushed to hospital, but Sheela succumbed to her injuries, while Rashmi remains in critical condition and is being treated in Dibrugarh.

Following the incident, enraged locals set several houses and shops on fire and damaged an e-rickshaw, demanding that the accused be handed over to them.

Police later arrested Bhoomij from the Baghjan area. The situation in the tea estate remains tense, and security forces have been deployed to prevent further unrest.
