Security forces have arrested an active member of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), commonly known as PREPAK (PRO), during a coordinated operation in Imphal West district.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Ksh. Laiba Meitei (40), a resident of Lamdeng Khunou under Lamshang Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel conducted a raid at his residence on Wednesday and apprehended him without resistance.
According to official sources, Meitei was actively engaged in extortion activities, targeting educational institutions, business establishments, and government employees across Imphal. His actions reportedly spread fear and intimidation among the local population.
During the raid, authorities recovered a mobile phone believed to contain vital information about the outfit’s network and operational details. The device has been seized for forensic examination to trace other operatives and funding links associated with PREPAK (PRO).
Officials described the arrest as a major step in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts aimed at dismantling extortion networks and curbing militant activities in Manipur. Further investigation is underway to determine Meitei’s role within the organisation and his possible connections to other insurgent elements in the region.
