An unidentified elderly woman’s body was recovered from the Janali River in Nashraibil village under Gossaigaon subdivision on Friday morning.
Locals who spotted the body floating in the river alerted Charaibil Police, after which a team arrived at the site, retrieved the body and began initial formalities.
Residents suspect the woman may have died while fishing, though police have not confirmed the cause of death. The body has been sent to Kokrajhar for post-mortem examination. Officials said the exact cause of death will be known after a detailed investigation.
