Bokakhat celebrates Zubeen Garg’s 53rd birthday with statue unveiling

A total of 132 organisations in Bokakhat joined hands to celebrate the 53rd birthday of Assam’s music icon Zubeen Garg, with the unveiling of a second statue of the singer scheduled for 18 November.

Senior Cabinet minister and Bokakhat MLA Atul Bora said the event was being organised with the support of the Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Administration to promote harmony and collective pride among residents. The day-long programme aimed to showcase Garg’s cultural influence and his enduring impact on Assam’s musical landscape.

In preparation for the celebrations, 53 artistes had been rehearsing a special group performance based on Garg’s popular compositions. The musical tribute was set to be staged at the Bokakhat Natya Mandir.

As part of the unique activities planned, a Kopou flower was to be planted on a 120-year-old Seuj tree in front of the Bokakhat Tourist Lodge, symbolising love, heritage and cultural continuity. Participating organisations also planned to construct a full-sized statue of the singer as a mark of collective admiration.

Minister Bora confirmed the arrangements, saying Bokakhat’s initiative reflected heartfelt appreciation for Garg’s contributions to the arts and society.
