A new Agricultural Tool Bank was inaugurated at Bhittorpowai, Makumkilla in Margherita, marking a significant step toward enhancing rural agricultural infrastructure in the region. The initiative, supported through the CSR fund of North Eastern Coalfields (NEC), Coal India Limited (CIL), aims to provide farmers with improved access to mechanised tools and equipment.
As part of the project, two tractors along with essential agricultural implements were officially handed over to farmers under the Bhittorpowai Gaon Panchayat. The availability of modern machinery is expected to ease farming operations during crucial seasons, increase productivity, and lessen the financial strain on small and marginal cultivators.
Speaking at the event, NEC General Manager K. Mere emphasised Coal India’s commitment to supporting grassroots development through meaningful CSR efforts. He noted that the new tool bank would directly benefit farmers who often face challenges due to limited resources and lack of access to efficient equipment.
Gitul Chowluk from the Department of Agriculture, Tinsukia, praised Patkai Green FPC for its ongoing work in strengthening farmer-led organisations. He assured the department’s continued support toward improving the agricultural ecosystem in the region.
Trinayan Gogoi, Secretary of WE FOR YOU, reiterated the organisation’s mission to empower rural communities by ensuring farmers receive essential tools, proper training and sustained assistance for long-term agricultural growth.
Local farmers and village representatives expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could transform farming practices in Makumkilla and nearby areas. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, renewing a shared commitment to advancing agricultural development across Margherita Co-District.
