Guwahati: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), along with the United Boro People’s Organization (UBPO) and the Ex-NDFB Welfare Association, launched a two-day national movement in the capital demanding full implementation of the Bodo Peace Accord, 2020. After hosting a national seminar at the Constitution Club with leaders from ten Sixth Schedule councils across Northeast India, the organisations staged a three-hour sit-in protest today at Jantar Mantar urging the passage of the long-pending 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2019, which aims to enhance financial and administrative authority of Sixth Schedule councils in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
ABSU President Dipen Boro said the Accord ushered in peace but stressed that “peace must be backed by action.” He called for immediate tripartite talks between the Centre, Assam Government and ABSU to fast-track implementation, warning that continued delays undermine the credibility of the agreement. Despite over 12 review meetings and multiple visits to the Union Home Minister in the last five years, progress remains slow.
