Kharupetia Police Arrest Man for Alleged Links to International Extremist Networks

Kharupetia Police have arrested a man suspected of maintaining connections with multiple international extremist groups, marking a significant development in the state’s efforts to curb radical activity. The accused, identified as Munser Ali from West Kamarpara village, was taken into custody on 25 November following a coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs.

Ali was produced before the court on Tuesday and has been remanded to judicial custody. According to police officials, preliminary findings indicate that he had been in contact with the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Investigators also believe he communicated with extremist operatives in Bangladesh using social media platforms, raising concerns about cross-border radical influence.

Authorities said Ali had returned to Kharupetia only a few days earlier after working in Tamil Nadu. Intelligence assessments suggest he was exploring plans to carry out subversive activities in Kharupetia and possibly other sensitive areas in Assam. Police officers stated that continued surveillance and evidence collection were instrumental in establishing his suspected links, leading to his arrest.

He has been charged under Sections 147, 148, 152 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 39(2) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Investigations are ongoing as officials attempt to identify any additional associates or networks connected to the case.
