EKSWCO Seeks Urgent Verification of Overlooked Sections in Lada–Sarli Highway Probe

The East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) has pressed Transport Commissioner and Fact-Finding Committee chairman Saughat Biswas to urgently inspect Packages 1 and 3 of the Lada–Sarli Arunachal Frontier Highway, alleging that both sections were entirely ignored during the ongoing inquiry into compensation and alignment-related irregularities.

In a memorandum submitted on Tuesday, Chopa Cheda, chairman of EKSWCO’s committee on the alleged Lada–Sarli highway scam, said the fact-finding panel constituted on 13 August 2025 had already surveyed Packages 2, 4 and 5. However, he noted that Package 3 remained unchecked despite repeated appeals from affected villagers. He described the omission as a significant lapse that had heightened anxiety among beneficiaries and raised doubts about the transparency and fairness of the final report.

Cheda said thorough verification of Packages 1 and 3 is crucial to ensure proper compensation, prevent future disputes and avoid a situation where the government may need to reopen the case, potentially causing further administrative delays. The organisation urged Biswas to carry out field verification within the next two to three days, ahead of the government’s 30 November deadline for completing the final report.

EKSWCO said prompt intervention is necessary to protect public interest and maintain trust in the inquiry into suspected irregularities linked to the Lada–Sarli highway compensation process. The organisation stated that the Commissioner has assured them that a re-verification survey will be undertaken soon.

The Fact-Finding Committee includes representatives from the land management, forest, agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and public works departments. It has been granted time until 30 November 2025 to compile and submit its findings.

Meanwhile, Cheda added that EKSWCO will convene a meeting on 29 November, bringing together executive members, clan groups, social workers, activists, student unions, affected landowners and other stakeholders to discuss collective concerns and formulate a unified resolution for submission to the government.
