Manipur Police and security forces have arrested two active members of proscribed militant organisations in separate operations under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. The arrests, carried out on November 25 and 26, form part of an intensified crackdown on insurgent recruitment in the region.
On Wednesday, November 26, police apprehended 18-year-old Thangjam Avinash Singh, also known as Amuba or Picktru, an active cadre of KYKL (SOREPA). He was arrested from the Porompat area and is suspected of recruiting new members for the banned outfit. Officers seized a mobile phone from his possession, which is believed to contain key information about the organisation’s network.
A day earlier, on November 25, security personnel detained 38-year-old Laishram Amar Singh, also known as Amarjit, an active member of the PREPAK (PRO) militant group. He was picked up from his residence at Top Awang Leikai in Top Dusara, where authorities recovered a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card during the raid.
Both detainees are undergoing intensive interrogation as investigators work to uncover the broader networks associated with their organisations. Police said further operations are underway to disrupt recruitment channels and other insurgent-linked activities in the district.
