Shilp Guru Mantu Ch. Das to Inaugurate National Handicraft Week 2025

Guwahati: Preparations are underway in Guwahati for the National Handicraft Week 2025, which will be celebrated from December 8 to 14 at the PWD Convention and Training Centre in Dispur. Organised by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), North-Eastern Regional Office (NERO) under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the event will highlight the cultural and artistic heritage of the North-East.

The week-long celebration will officially commence on December 8, with the inauguration of the exhibition and the Craft Demonstration Programme (CDP) by Shri Mantu Ch. Das, distinguished Shilp Guru awardee. He is expected to open the event and address artisans, participants and visitors, underscoring the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship.

Artisans from across the region are scheduled to take part in the exhibition, which will feature an array of North-Eastern handicrafts including cane and bamboo products, handloom textiles, tribal artefacts, natural fibre creations and contemporary craft innovations. Visitors will also be able to witness live demonstrations, participate in interactive sessions and attend seminars designed to promote skill development and cultural appreciation.

The upcoming celebration aims to support artisan livelihoods, boost market exposure and encourage the public to embrace locally produced handmade crafts, echoing national initiatives such as Vocal for Local and Made in India.

With the event just days away, anticipation is building among craft enthusiasts, students, entrepreneurs and members of the public eager to explore the region’s creative wealth.
