Modi Showcases India’s Cultural Strength Through Exquisite Gifts to Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a carefully curated selection of traditional Indian gifts to Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring the cultural depth, craftsmanship and historical ties that define India’s relationship with Russia. The gesture highlighted both nations’ enduring friendship while showcasing India’s diverse artisanal legacy.

Among the gifts was a Russian edition of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, a text revered for its philosophical teachings and spiritual wisdom. The scripture encapsulates Lord Krishna’s discourse to Arjuna on duty, the soul and liberation, offering guidance that has inspired generations across the world.

Modi also gifted Assam’s celebrated black tea, grown in the lush Brahmaputra Valley and known for its bold malty flavour and bright hue. Certified with a GI tag in 2007, the tea represents centuries of cultivation knowledge and remains prized globally not only for its taste but also for its health benefits.

A finely engraved Murshidabad silver tea set further enriched the collection, symbolising the cultural importance of tea in both India and Russia. Officials noted that the handcrafted set reflected the warmth and longstanding cooperation between the two nations.

Adding to the artistic showcase was a meticulously crafted silver horse from Maharashtra, representing India’s metalwork traditions. The piece, distinguished by its intricate detailing, was described as a symbol of the steady and forward-moving partnership between India and Russia.

Also included was a handcrafted marble chess set from Agra, a region renowned for its stone inlay craftsmanship under the One District One Product initiative. The elegant board paid tribute to India’s historical artisanship while acknowledging the popularity of chess in both countries.

To complete the collection, Modi gifted premium Kashmiri saffron, locally known as kong or zaffran. Celebrated for its rich colour, aroma and flavour, the spice embodies the cultural and culinary heritage of Kashmir.

Together, the selection showcased India’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties through cultural expression, artistry and meaningful symbolism.
