Dibrugarh: The Indian Red Cross Society, Dibrugarh District Branch, in collaboration with NTEP and NACP, Dibrugarh, and Barbaruah Tea Estate, organised a Tuberculosis and HIV (AIDS) Awareness and Screening Camp today at the Barbaruah Tea Estate Health Centre. The programme, which began at 10 a.m., drew active participation from tea garden workers and local residents.
Red Cross Secretary Anuj Kr. Baruah introduced all dignitaries and health workers, followed by a welcome address from Chairman Dr. Pankaj Kumar Shrutikar, who highlighted the high prevalence of TB and HIV among tea garden communities and urged attendees to utilise the free screening services.

District TB Officer Dr. Rabi Borah explained the causes and prevention of TB and HIV, stressing the importance of early detection and government support. Speakers Sujit Takri and Monikha Changmai discussed government initiatives aimed at eliminating both diseases free of cost.
Health teams conducted awareness sessions, counselling, TB symptom screening, sputum collection, HIV testing, and general check-ups. A total of 62 participants were screened—20 tested non-reactive for HIV, while the remaining 42 showed negative results under NTEP. The programme concluded with an appeal to spread awareness and encourage timely testing for a healthier community.
