Dhubri: The demand for a separate Kamatapur state, official recognition of the Rajbanshi language, and granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Rajbanshi community has once again intensified. The Kamatapur State Demand Council (KSDC) held a press conference in Dhubri expressing strong dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to address these long-pending demands despite earlier peace agreements with the leadership of KLO and KN.
According to the council, even after the peace accord, KLO chief Jiban Singha and KN chief D.C. Koch, who had surrendered, have been kept confined for the past three years, and the Rajbanshi community has not been given any form of recognition or rights. In protest, KSDC along with AKRASU, UG AKRASU, KPP, GCPA, and various other Rajbanshi organisations has announced a massive rail blockade.

The organisations stated that the rail blockade will continue indefinitely starting 16 December, and will take place not only across Assam but also at the gateway district Dhubri, affecting major routes.
This protest will also be observed in West Bengal and Bihar alongside Assam, the leaders added. They further warned that if the government fails to fulfill their demands in the coming days, the organisations will impose an economic blockade and even consider blocking the Northeast’s vital Chicken Neck corridor as part of intensified agitation.
