Dhubri: A Block Development Officer (BDO) in Assam was arrested on December 18 for allegedly accepting a bribe in his office, following a complaint of corruption. Ratan Kumar Saha, BDO of Golakganj Development Block in Dhubri district, was caught by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC), Assam after allegedly taking ₹15,000 from a complainant. The amount was part of a larger demand of ₹16,000 for clearing official bills.
According to V&AC officials, the complainant refused to pay the bribe and filed a formal complaint, prompting authorities to lay a trap at Saha’s office the same day. Saha was apprehended immediately after accepting the money in his chamber. The cash was recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Following verification of evidence, Saha was formally arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). A case has been registered under Section 7(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), recorded as ACB P.S. Case No. 67/2025.
Officials emphasized that the swift action reflects the department’s zero-tolerance stance against corruption, and further investigation is ongoing to probe the alleged irregularities in the release of official payments.
