In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Kangleipak), or UNLF (K), during an operation on Sunday, December 21. The apprehension took place in the Lilong Bridge area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Singjamei Police Station in the Imphal West district. The suspect has been identified by authorities as 44-year-old Konsam Romesh Meitei, a resident of Kongba Kshetri Leikai located in the Imphal East district.
According to official police sources, Meitei was allegedly actively involved in extortion activities carried out on behalf of the banned organization. At the time of the arrest, security personnel seized several personal items and assets from his possession to be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation. The recovered items included a four-wheeler vehicle, two mobile handsets, a wallet, and an Aadhaar card.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the accused is currently undergoing interrogation to determine the full scope of his involvement in extortion networks and to uncover potential links to other members within the outfit. Legal proceedings against the individual have already been initiated. Investigators have stated that they are not ruling out further arrests as the probe continues to progress into the group’s local operations.
