Man Dies After Contact with Live Railway Wire in Guwahati’s Chandmari

A tragic incident occurred late on Monday night, December 22, in Guwahati’s Chandmari area, where a man lost his life after coming into contact with a high-voltage railway overhead wire, police said.

According to preliminary information, the man was attempting to cross over a stationary oil tanker near the railway track when he accidentally touched a live overhead wire. He was electrocuted instantly and died on the spot, triggering panic among local residents.

Officials said the oil tanker narrowly avoided catching fire, averting a potentially major disaster in the densely populated locality. Authorities noted that the situation could have escalated significantly had the tanker ignited.

Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Chandmari Police rushed to the spot soon after the incident and secured the area. The body was recovered, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances leading to the electrocution.

The identity of the deceased could not be established at the time of filing this report. Police said efforts are underway to ascertain his identity, and necessary legal procedures are being followed.
