Indian Rly. Introduces Modern LHB Rake on Balurghat–Kolkata Express

Guwahati: Indian Railways has introduced a new modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rake on Train No. 13161/13162 Balurghat–Kolkata–Balurghat Express, marking a significant enhancement in passenger comfort, safety and overall travel experience. The upgraded service was formally flagged off from Balurghat Railway Station on December 23.

The inaugural run was flagged off by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, in the presence of Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, MLA, Balurghat. Senior railway officials of the Katihar Division and other distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.

With the introduction of LHB coaches, passengers travelling between Balurghat and Kolkata will benefit from improved safety features, superior riding comfort, modern interiors, advanced braking systems and higher speed potential. The new coaches are designed to provide a smoother and more secure journey compared to conventional rakes.

The upgrade reflects Indian Railways’ continued commitment to modernising train services and improving passenger amenities across the network. Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen rail connectivity in the region and offer safer, faster and more comfortable travel options.

The upgraded Balurghat–Kolkata–Balurghat Express is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for daily commuters and long-distance passengers alike, reinforcing Indian Railways’ focus on passenger-centric development.
