Haflong : A man was killed in a hit-and-run incident at Gadain Raji under the jurisdiction of Mahur Police Station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, triggering tension in the area. The victim has been identified as Seiminhao Lhangum, a resident of Numjang village. According to police sources, he was struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene immediately after the accident. Lhangum sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.
The incident sparked widespread outrage among local residents, who gathered at the accident site and blocked National Highway-27 (NH-27) in protest, disrupting vehicular movement for several hours. Protesters reportedly set tyres on fire, leading to long traffic snarls and leaving numerous vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.Police personnel and district administration officials rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Additional security forces were deployed to prevent any further escalation and to ensure law and order in the area.

Traffic movement was restored after prolonged negotiations between the authorities and protesters. The body of the deceased was later sent for post-mortem examination as part of legal procedures.Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible and appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
