Guwahati, Dec 31: Assam Police cracked down on the illegal drug trade in Dhubri district with the seizure of a consignment of psychotropic capsules and the arrest of a young man during a targeted operation on December 30. The action was carried out following specific intelligence inputs, officials said.

A team from Bilasipara Police Station launched the raid at around 7:40 pm in Gatapara area under Ward No. 8. During the operation, the police intercepted a suspect and recovered 23 units of SENSPAS+ capsules, a psychotropic substance known to be misused as an alternative to narcotic drugs.

Police officials said the search and seizure were conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and in strict adherence to legal protocols. The accused was identified as 24-year-old Firdus Hoque, son of Nur Alom Hoque, a resident of Botertol locality in Dhubri district.

Following the seizure, a case was registered under relevant sections of the law, and Hoque was taken into custody for further questioning. Authorities have initiated an investigation to trace the source of the capsules and determine whether the seizure is connected to a larger drug distribution network operating in the region.

Police said efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals who may be involved in the illegal trade, as part of intensified enforcement measures against drug trafficking in the district.
